Dutch Swiss Marine Consultancy (DSMC) is an independent management consulting company for the niche market of ‘Small Passenger Ships’. Our main focus is to support stakeholders in the worldwide Expedition Cruise-, Coastal Cruise-, River Cruise-, and Superyacht industry with improving their safety and environmental performance, by providing a range of QHSE consulting services, thereby assisting to operate ships more environmentally sustainable and maximizing human safety and well-being.

We assist passenger ship owners, managers, and operators by providing bespoke expert QHSE advice, tailor made crew training’s, and the development, implementation and/or control of company specific management systems, or standard operating policies & procedures. Dutch Swiss Marine is also ‘the’ contact point for ship owners to obtain professional advice on regulatory compliance, flag and class registration, marine insurance, and on future rules and legislation in the areas of health, safety, environment, and climate change GHG emissions. The company was founded in 2015 in Zurich, Switzerland, by Mr. B. Maaswinkel, who holds a Bachelor degree (B.Sc. / B.Eng.) in ‘Maritime Operations’ from the Nautical University of Amsterdam. Today the company operates out of The Netherlands and occasionally from SE Asia. The founder has over 25 years’ professional management experience in the merchant shipping, luxury superyacht, ocean cruise and river cruise industry. Licensed as a ‘Maritime Integrated Officer’ he started his career as a deck- and engineering officer working on various types of ships, including large ocean cruise liners, passenger ferries and container ships, sailing all the World’s Oceans. After his sailing career, he worked ashore in various key management positions for well-known international merchant shipping, offshore, superyacht and river cruise companies in the areas of commercial ship operations, technical ship management and QHSE management.

The principal has a long experience in the marine industry and has gained a wealth of knowledge about the industry’s best practices, technical innovations and international & national regulations. He is also a certified and experienced ISM-Code Designated Person Ashore (DPA), plus certified ISM/ISPS/MLC Auditor, Qualified Yacht Surveyor (QI) for the Marshall Islands Registry, Ad-Hoc Consultant / Content writer for marine insurance P&I Clubs, and a committee member of the ‘Ships and Maritime Technology’ Standard Committee at the Royal Netherlands Standardization Institute.

Dutch Swiss Marine works closely together with an international pool of leading international consulting groups and highly experienced independent associates, servicing the luxury cruise- and superyacht sectors. The pool members & associates are located in The Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, UK, USA and Vietnam and include among others; cruise market research analysts, naval architects, new-build project managers, marine & technical superintendents, hospitality professionals and approved passenger ship safety trainers.

Consulting Rates & Privacy

Our consulting services and rates are clear and transparent; based on 8-hour working days and invoiced on “actual hours worked per project”. Long term interim management consulting services can be provided against a reduced fixed monthly fee. All information between Dutch Swiss Marine and the Client shall always be kept strictly confidential and shall not be disclosed to any other parties. Upon request, we work with non-disclosure agreements between Dutch Swiss Marine and our Clients.
